For the Fall – Homemade Apples & Pumpkin Puree Baby Food Recipe

As luck would have it, pumpkin and apple appear during the Fall at the same time.  You’ll be able to take advantage of using these tasty and nutritious fresh ingredients, in season!

Pumpkin and apples offer baby an abundance of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Folate and even Calcium. This combination just can’t be beat and is great to help boost iron absorption; serve with meats whenever possible!  Mix into yogurt, oatmeal or even with pureed chicken.

Apples & Pumpkin Puree Baby Food Recipe

Tools - Saucepot Knife, Cutting Board, Food Processor

Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes
Total Time 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh pumpkin – peeled and diced
  • 2 cups apples – peeled cored and chopped
  • 1-2 cups of water
  • pinch of cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a medium saucepan.*
  2. Bring ingredients to a gentle simmer and continue to simmer on low until the fruits are soft and fork tender *Check on water level during simmering time – approximately 25 minutes.

Notes

Allow to the apples and pumpkin to cool then mash or puree if needed.

You can bake or roast the pumpkins and apples together in a baking pan, at 400 degrees F – add 3 cups of water – roast until tender.
