Babies & toddlers love to explore food with their fingers as well as with their mouths and also, with their eyes too. The tactile exploration is very important and goes a long way in helping form a healthy relationship with food. Sure, it can be very messy and who has time to mop the floor twice a day? Having twins who tossed and smooshed their way through solid foods, I can emphasize completely but, I urge you to give your little ones the chance to mess their way through some mealtimes.
If you’re looking for a nice creative way to capture your little one’s attention with foods, try these pink potatoes. While taste and touch are important for babies, giving them some eye-candy when you present their foods is important as well. Now you don’t have to go to great lengths to create works of art with pureed squash or baked apple chunks each day; all you have to do is look at the foods on hand and for example, divide them into colors or mash them into colors.
